Genesis 2007 European Tour Setlist

Now, it’s been going on for a little while now, but here is th final setlist for the 2007 Genesis European tour, followed by my comments

  • Behind the Lines / Duke’s End / Turn It On Again
  • No Son Of Mine
  • Land of Confusion
  • In The Cage / The Cinema Show / Duke’s Travels / Afterglow
  • Hold on My Heart
  • Home by the Sea / Second Home By The Sea
  • Follow You Follow Me
  • Firth of Fifth / I Know What I Like
  • Mama
  • Ripples
  • Throwing It All Away
  • Domino
  • Drum Duet / Los Endos
  • Tonight, Tonight, Tonight / Invisible Touch
  • I Can’t Dance
  • Carpet Crawlers

A good setlist, I suppose. But a little disappointing. I mean, why isn’t “That’s All” on there? Couldn’t they replace that horrid “Hold on My Heart” with that instead? It’s a classic. Well, maybe it’ll show up on the American leg of the tour, because I know “Mama” was alot more popular over there. I am glad to see some of the good choices from the classic era: “In The Cage”, “Carpet Crawlers” (A pretty good song to close the show with), “I Know What I Like” is mandatory. I’m rather intrigued by the “Behind The Lines / Duke’s End / Turn It on Again” medley. What a strange idea, but I haven’t seen it so it might work well, they’re decent pieces of music.

Let’s run through some the other choices: “No Son of Mine” is a favorite, as is “Land of Confusion”. “Duke’s Travels”… okay, I guess the crowds nowadays like the 8 minutes of instrumental bombast. “Afterglow”… more like Aftersnooze. “Home by the Sea” oooh, big deal. The second half is still really boring, I can’t imagine they’ve done anything to improve it. “Follow You Follow Me” GREAT SONG! And they included the whole version instead of a short part in the old medley. And I hear Phil plays drums while singing on this one. What a treat! Anyway, “Firth of Fifth”, “I Know What I Like” classics, of course. “Mama” is always a crowd-pleaser, and I’m sure Phil is still good at those HA-HAs! “Ripples” is an unusual choice. Good song, but I don’t expect too many people to really care for it. “Throwing It All Away” probably still includes that annoying chant shtick (Well, I kinda like it.) “Domino”… ooh, big surprise there. I know the crowds love this performance. “Drum Duet” of course, with Phil and Chester Thompson battling out again… and then into “Los Endos” which I can enjoy. Ahh looks like they shorten “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight” again and transition it into “Invisible Touch” again this time. Phooey. “I Can’t Dance” is another great pop song, and underrated by many of those who didn’t like Genesis’ turn to pop. And it closes with the classic “Carpet Crawlers”. So that’s an interesting setlist, but I’m waiting to see the American version and hopefully they’ll get smart and drop “Hold on My Heart” and add “That’s All”.

no offense to your commentary but I bought a ticket tonight because Genesis was playing ripples, afterglow and carpet crawler. They were at there best with these songs. I only wish trick of the tails, musical box and the lamb lies down was included. We probably would need gabriel for the show.

    take care.

Hey, thanks for your comment. I like two of the three songs you wanted to hear there. And a fun fact is that “A trick of the tail” was actually NEVER performed live by Genesis. Strange but true. Collins performed portions of the musical box and the lamb lies down on the 1992 tour.

i can’t wait to hear ripples! I heard they are going to drop it for the american tour which if they do, it will break my heart. Being a fan from the 70’s I could do without some of their pop stuff. I agree that hold on my heart should go! If not, then it’s a good time to be in the beer line!

  4. Love the old stuff

Your comments are interesting but i’m sorry that i don’t agree with them much. how could you not like ripples, which they probably haven’t done in 20 years. not too many people have seen that performed live. Ditto with all of the duke stuff, especially duke’s travel’s. That’s all is one of their worst songs ever and i’ve seen follow you follow me too often. it’s always best when bands do stuff you haven’t seen in awhile - it keeps them fresh and makes shows more interesting. if they cut ripples from the U.S. shows, they should replace with abacab or better yet, squonk or dancing with the moonlit knight. Those are gems….

I never said I didn’t like ‘Ripples’. In fact, it’s among my favorite post-Gabriel era songs. I was just guessing not too many people would care for that song (at least the ones who were indoctrinated into the pop era). I think “Afterglow” is a huge bore, but maybe it’s better live. Who knows? I need to keep up with the Youtube videos. At least they aren’t playing “One For The Vine”. Your op on “That’s All”, I personally think it’s the greatest Collins-era pop song second to “I Can’t Dance” (seriously). The Duke stuff is ok, I just hope they stay away from playing “Misunderstanding” on the American tour. For some reason, they seem to stay away from the Abacab material, which is a shame. I also like “Squonk” and it would be interesting to see Phil do “Dancing with the Moonlit Knight”.

Decent setlist, My dad and I have tickets to see Phil, Mike and Tony September 22nd at Nationwide Arena. CAN’T WAIT!!!!!! Am looking forward to a great night of excellent music and brilliant muscians. Hey Fellas, is Abacab out of the question to in the STATES?

I’m a huge P. Collins fan and have been for many years and have seen him in concert many times solo as well as with Genesis as well as Genesis and will be attending the September 7 show in Toronto (the hubby bought the tickets for my birthday). Sorry I don’t share your perspectives. Hold on My Heart is certainly NOT a horrid song. It’s words are intensive, moving, and beautiful and I’m thrilled it’s on the setlist. While I’m definitely not disappointed in the setlist, I wish the band could add one more track, In Too Deep.

Hi Liz. Thanks for your comments. I can’t say I certainly agree with you on the filler sap sludge that is “Hold on My Heart”… To your potential glee though, Tony Banks has stated that “In Too Deep” will likely be added (Possibly at the expense of “Ripples”, much to the chagrin of myself and some of the commenters here)… my opinion on the song is that it’s okay. It’s not the worst thing off Invisible Touch (My answer for that would actually be the title track itself… I mean really, the lyrics for “In Too Deep” are quite a bit more poetic that “She seems to have an invisible touch, yeah”) and it is at least a little touching and sincere, I guess. And I guess I can’t help but dig the (electronic) piano flourishes in the song. Shoot me now…

Nolan, I hope they play Abacab too. Seems they’ve been ignoring everything off that whole album since the WCD tour…

According to the URL below they’re keeping the same setlist for the North American tour. Although they still might change it up later in the tour.

    No setlist changes planned
